Why we use Soy Wax

We often get asked why we've chosen soy wax for our candles and several of our customers often point out that soy wax products are more expensive compared to paraffin wax products, and that's true initially.

But when you delve deeper, you'll realize that the savings with paraffin wax come at a higher environmental and health cost.

In simple terms, soy wax is the better option. It's better for the environment, better for your home, better for your family, and it creates a superior product – and that matters to us.

Soy wax is a relatively recent discovery, dating back to 1991 when someone sought a cost-effective alternative to the then-expensive Cera Alba (Beeswax which at the time was ten times pricier than paraffin wax.

Choosing soy wax was an easy decision for us. As the name suggests, soy wax is made from soybeans, making it 100% natural, 100% renewable, and 100% environmentally friendly

On the flip side, paraffin wax is a byproduct of the petroleum oil refining process, making it non-renewable and environmentally unfriendly. Here are our top reasons for favoring soy wax over paraffin wax, and we're open to hearing any additional benefits or drawbacks you might know of:

  1. Longer Burning: Soy wax has a lower melting point, allowing it to burn up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles.

  2. Non-Toxic: Derived from vegetable oil, soy wax burns cleanly and releases no known carcinogens when lit.

  3. Better Fragrance: The lower melting temperature of soy wax creates a healthier 'wax pool' around the wick, facilitating the easier vaporization of fragrance oils and releasing more scent into your home.

  4. Renewable Resource: Soybeans are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and a replenishable resource.

  5. Easier to Clean: Spills of soy wax are biodegradable, making them easier to wipe off fabrics or tablecloths. Soy wax can also be used on the skin (after a patch test) for a rejuvenating experience.

  6. Clean Burning: Soy burns cleanly, minimizing the release of soot.

  7. Skin Treatment: Light the candle 30-45 minutes before applying small amounts to your skin, resulting in rejuvenated and hydrated skin – a spa-like experience at home, especially during lockdown. Always conduct a small patch test before applying Only for use with our natural-colored wax.

So, while paraffin wax may seem initially cost-effective, it's essential to consider the broader environmental and health costs of burning paraffin wax over soy wax.
